Crush is an adorable 3-minute animated short made by a French animation collective called MegaComputeur (from their site: “We love telling stories and bringing characters to life… Especially dumb characters.”) and it’s a must watch . It was commissioned by the French Alps ski resort Val Thorens and it’s a delightful short about two cable cars in love. A scrap dealer about to crush an old 80s cable car imagines what life was like for two mountain lovers on cables. The character designs are so cute and I love how pure their love is – sharing fondue and snacks together, relaxing in a hot tub, making snowmen. A24 has revealed an official US trailer for an unsettling film from Iceland called Lamb , which just premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival earlier this month. A childless couple in rural Iceland make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They will soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale. This one is described in reviews as a “highly original take on the anxieties of being a parent, a tale in which nature plus nurture yields a nightmare.” The film stars Noomi Rapace (who is actually Swedish but she moved to Iceland as a child where she spent some time growing up), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson , and Hilmir Snær Guðnason . Well, not really. But this is about as close as anyone can get! A Puff Before Dying is an incredible 10-minute marionette short film, made by filmmakers Michael Reich and Mike Pinkney . Apparently this is a real PSA, but I can’t find any info on for who – clearly one of the states where marijuana is legal now. (The “Federal Road Safety Foundation” is made up.) A wild night of pot and “drugged-up driving” ends in tragedy for three teenagers that happen to be marionettes. Please don’t smoke and drive! Or else this!
